All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was set up in November 1945 as a national-level Apex Advisory Body to conduct a survey on the facilities available for technical education and to promote development in the country in a coordinated and integrated manner.

In accordance with the provisions of the AICTE Act (1987), for the first five years after its inception in 1988, the Minister for Human Resource Development, the Government of India, was the Chairman of the Council. The first full-time Chairman was appointed on July 2, 1993 and the Council was reconstituted in March 1994 with a term of three years. The Executive Committee was re-constituted on July 7, 1994 and All India Board of Studies and Advisory Boards were constituted in 1994-95. Regional Offices of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Government of India, located in Kolkata, Chennai, Kanpur, and Mumbai were transferred to AICTE and the staff working in these offices were also deputed to the Council on foreign service terms w.e.f. October 1, 1995.

These offices functioned as secretariats of regional Committees in the four regions (North, East, West and South). Three new regional Committees in southwest, central, and northwest regions with their secretariats located in Bangalore, Bhopal, and Chandigarh, respectively, were also established on July 27, 1994. One more regional committee in South-Central region with its Secretariat in Hyderabad was notified on March 8, 2007.

APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (initially Kerala Technological University), a State Government University has come into existence on May 21, 2014 with an aim to give leadership to the technology related policy formulation and Engineering Planning for the State. It also emphasizes to improve the academic standards of the Graduate, Post Graduate and Research Programmes in Engineering Science, Technology and Management and regulate the academic standards of all colleges affiliated to the University. The main thrust areas of the University are Research, Development and Innovation.

The institution and its affiliated programs including B.Tech, M.Tech and MBA are accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ grade in 2023. The validity of NAAC accreditation is till 9th January 2028.

UGC approved NAAC grading provides an exceptional status to institutions, thereby promotes quality education. NAAC grading system segregates the best colleges from average or lower grade institutions, making it simpler for the students to select the best institution with high quality in academics, student support, infrastructure, technology, learning resources, amenities, faculty, industry support and research. NAAC also believes that the overall improvement of students is not purely academics but also focused on co-curricular and extra – curricular activities. CSE and ECE B.tech programs of VJCET were accredited by NBA in the year 2010. All B.Tech programs were accredited by NBA in 2018 and all the five eligible B.Tech programs were re-accredited in 2022. We are the second Engineering college in Kerala under self-financing category to secure all B.Tech programs accredited by NBA in 2018.

National Board of Accreditation(NBA) is an independent body under the AICTE.

The team has inspected the above five programs and the entire college in detail. Based on the performance and commitment to education, these B.Tech programs offered by these departments were given NBA accreditation till, 30 th June 2025. The accreditation status of VJCET is listed in the official websites of NBA and KTU.
