Mission
IT Department of VJCET was established in the year 2001 with an intake of 45 students.
In 2002 the intake is amplified to 60 students.
The department provides its students an environment that stimulates their intellectual growth and personality development.
Infrastructure facilities are excellent with well-equipped computer labs and classrooms.
The Department is accredited by NBA(National Board of Accreditation) on July 2018 for three years. In 2021, the status of accreditation was extended for 1 year. In June 2022, the B.Tech programme was re-accredited by NBA for three years till June 2025.
DATA COMMUNICATION LAB
The Data Communication Lab is fully equipped with state-of-the-art instruments to provide students hands-on training in data transmission, communication protocols, and interfacing hardware. The lab offers a wide range of experiments involving oscilloscopes, function generators, digital trainer kits, and microprocessor trainer kits. It supports simulation and testing of real-time communication systems.
Students can practically explore core concepts such as signal processing, multiplexing, modulation, and microprocessor interfacing. Various interface boards and controllers allow implementation and testing of peripheral devices and custom logic designs. This lab also includes essential tools like IC testers, multimeters, and dedicated computers for programming and analysis.
This facility is effectively utilized by students of multiple semesters for core experiments in Communication Engineering, Digital Systems, and Microprocessor Interfacing.

DBMS LAB
The lab is well designed to provide adequate space and convenience to the students, so that student’s get the best exposure and confidence. It is equipped with modern systems to develop the knowledge about database design and implementation using RDBMS. Students can be practically capable to manage the real life applications by implementing and deploying web applications using Servlets, HTML and JSPs. DBMS lab is used to provide experience on design, testing, and analysis of Algorithms and Data Structures. It is used by students of various semesters for doing language programming, web application development, networking and database management.

PROGRAMMING LAB
The lab is well equipped with facilities to train students about network configuration and management, client server applications. It is used for socket programming between client and server in a network scenario using TCP/IP protocol. System level Programming like MASM also incorporated in this lab. It is also used for Python Programming by first semester students in Linux platform. The software Packet Tracer is used for simulation of network programmes. Students can be practically capable to manage the real life applications by implementing and deploying web applications using Servlets, HTML and JSP. This lab is used by students of various semesters for doing language programming, web application development and also for networking.

OrbIT is a student association initiated by Department of Information Technology VJCET. The AIM of the association is to encourage the students for expressing their talent in Co-Curricular and Extracurricular activities.The association conducts various activities round the year, which is coordinated by the students with the guidance of faculty members.
Association Activities (2024-2025)
The IT Department Association is inaugurated every academic year. As part of the association celebrations, the Department of Information Technology organized various cultural and technical events for the academic year 2024–2025. The poster for the association was officially released on October 15, 2024.
The inaugural function began with a welcome speech by Mrs. Jesline Joseph (HoD–IT), who addressed the gathering and welcomed all the guests. This was followed by the Manager’s address by Msgr. Dr. Pius Malekandathil, who spoke about the importance of the association and various related aspects. Next was the Director’s address by Rev. Fr. Paul Nedumpurath, who delivered a speech contrasting the relative importance of cognitive intelligence (IQ) and emotional intelligence (EQ).
The program was further enriched by a message from the Principal, Dr. K. K. Rajan, who spoke about the abundant possibilities in the IT sector. The Chief Guest was warmly welcomed and introduced by Deborah Joseph, Student Co-ordinator (Association). The association was officially inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Mr. Siju Joseph (Delivery Partner, TCS Kochi). This was followed by an enlightening speech by the Chief Guest, in which he shared insights on the key aspects of the IT edge.
The inaugural ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Albin Bejoy, Secretary of the IT Department Association.
Following the inaugural function, Mr. Siju Joseph delivered a detailed technical talk on Aligning Skills with Industry Demands. Feedback on the session was given by Nia, a student of S7 IT. As a token of appreciation, a memento was presented to the Chief Guest by Msgr. Dr. Pius Malekandathil.
The program concluded on a vibrant note with cultural performances by the students.
Hack the Box
The inauguration of ‘Hack the Box’ VJCET chapter was held on 24 March, 2025. Following then a full day workshop program was held for the students who were showing interest in cyber security. The session was led by Chief guest: Mr.Arjun R, CEO(PURPLE NEXUS).
Alumni Talk
An alumni talk was conducted for S2 IT students on 25th March 2025 based on the topic "KNOW YOURSELF TO FIND YOUR BEST POTENTIAL" by Mr. Aswin Krishna R, a Solution Engineer at IBM InfoPark.
Technical Workshop on Cybersecurity and Python Gaming
As part of skill enhancement initiatives, the IT Department conducted two technical workshops on cybersecurity and Python game development for S5 and S7 IT students, respectively on 11th September 2024. The forenoon session titled "Eyes of the Web: OSINT" was led by Mr. Ragesh K Ramachandran, Cybersecurity Analyst, who introduced core concepts of cybersecurity, including network and cloud security, and incident response. The afternoon session, "Code Your Imagination", focused on Python-based game development using Pygame, offering hands-on experience in creating interactive games.

Next, Rev. Fr. Paul Nedumpurath, Director, delivered a speech contrasting the relative importance of Cognitive Intelligence (IQ) and Emotional Intelligence (EQ).

Following the inaugural session, Mr. Rajeev M. A. conducted a detailed technical talk on Generative AI. Feedback on the session was provided by Deliz Sunil, a student of S5 IT.
As a token of appreciation, a memento was presented to the Chief Guest by Dr. Anju Susan George (HoD, IT Department).
The program concluded on a high note with vibrant cultural performances by the students.
National Seminar
National conference on 'Recent Trends in Computing 2024' was inaugurated on 5th April 2024.
Alumni Talk Series
The Department of Information Technology, in association with CSI, IIIC, and the Alumni Association, organized a series of insightful alumni talks aimed at enhancing industry awareness and technical skills among students. The sessions included "Design Thinking and Strategic Planning" on 15th March 2024, "Snowflake for SQL Development" on 1st April 2024, and "Detection of Cyber Threats" on 9th April 2024. An Alumni talk on "Recent Trends in IT Industry" organised by Information Technology Department, in association with CSI, IIIC and Alumni Association on 21st August 2023.These talks provided valuable perspectives from industry-experienced alumni and fostered meaningful engagement between past and present students.

A Technical Talk on "Introduction to Cloud Computing and Python Programming" by Dr. Biju Paul, Professor, IT Department RSET was organized by IT department in association CSI on 14th September 2023.

The advancement of technology has posed challenges to the educational system in terms of keeping up with the most recent technologies. The Department of Information Technology sets up future educators, scholars, and engineers through an assortment of pursuits that encompass the acquisition of fundamental information regarding computational techniques to the invention of innovative applications that are beneficial to the community in its entirety.
From its modest beginnings in 2001 offering a BTech programme with 45 students, the department today has expanded to 60 students.
The department strives to guarantee overall satisfaction by genuinely complying with the institution's quality standards and emphasising faculty development, facility updates, and continuous enhancement. To ensure that students are adequately ready for confrontation with evolving industry trends, the department provides extracurricular and co-curricular activities alongside the academic curriculum. The department's association organises guest lectures and technical events to assist our students refine their skills. The department's infrastructure has kept momentum, and modern labs have been set up to support the programme.
The alumni of the department hold prestigious positions in industry and academia, across India and abroad. Annual alumni meetings are held to gather alumni suggestions for the department's improvement.
The department encompasses exceptionally competent and enthusiastic faculty members and technical employees. Nearly every member of the team has had academic papers published in various conferences and journals. Faculty and technical employees are encouraged to participate in refresher courses/short-term training programmes on a regular basis to stay up-to-date on their expertise. The Department of Information Technology, with its talented experts, is rapidly developing into an outstanding educational and academic centre in the broadening disciplines of IT. The department of Information Technology perpetually strives for excellence, owing to the principal’s guidance and inspiration, the management's support, and the commitment and hard work of the faculty.
