• IT Department of VJCET was established in the year 2001 with an intake of 45 students.

• In 2002 the intake is amplified to 60 students.

• The department provides its students an environment that stimulates their intellectual growth and personality development.

• Infrastructure facilities are excellent with well-equipped computer labs and classrooms.

• The Department is accredited by NBA(National Board of Accreditation) on July 2018 for three years. In 2021, the status of accreditation was extended for 1 year. In June 2022, the B.Tech programme was re-accredited by NBA for three years till June 2025.

DATA COMMUNICATION LAB

The Data Communication Lab is fully equipped with state-of-the-art instruments to provide students hands-on training in data transmission, communication protocols, and interfacing hardware. The lab offers a wide range of experiments involving oscilloscopes, function generators, digital trainer kits, and microprocessor trainer kits. It supports simulation and testing of real-time communication systems.

Students can practically explore core concepts such as signal processing, multiplexing, modulation, and microprocessor interfacing. Various interface boards and controllers allow implementation and testing of peripheral devices and custom logic designs. This lab also includes essential tools like IC testers, multimeters, and dedicated computers for programming and analysis.

This facility is effectively utilized by students of multiple semesters for core experiments in Communication Engineering, Digital Systems, and Microprocessor Interfacing.

DBMS LAB

The lab is well designed to provide adequate space and convenience to the students, so that student’s get the best exposure and confidence. It is equipped with modern systems to develop the knowledge about database design and implementation using RDBMS. Students can be practically capable to manage the real life applications by implementing and deploying web applications using Servlets, HTML and JSPs. DBMS lab is used to provide experience on design, testing, and analysis of Algorithms and Data Structures. It is used by students of various semesters for doing language programming, web application development, networking and database management.

PROGRAMMING LAB

The lab is well equipped with facilities to train students about network configuration and management, client server applications. It is used for socket programming between client and server in a network scenario using TCP/IP protocol. System level Programming like MASM also incorporated in this lab. It is also used for Python Programming by first semester students in Linux platform. The software Packet Tracer is used for simulation of network programmes. Students can be practically capable to manage the real life applications by implementing and deploying web applications using Servlets, HTML and JSP. This lab is used by students of various semesters for doing language programming, web application development and also for networking.

OrbIT   is a student association initiated by Department of Information Technology VJCET. The AIM of the association is to encourage the students for expressing their talent in Co-Curricular and Extracurricular activities.The association conducts various activities round the year, which is coordinated by the students with the guidance of faculty members.

Association Activities (2026-2027)

The IT Department Association, Orbit, is inaugurated annually to promote technical knowledge, professional development, and student engagement. As part of the inauguration of Orbit 2026, the Department of Information Technology organized a technical talk titled “Industry 5.0” on 26 October 2026.

Inaugural Function

The function commenced with a welcome address by Mrs. Jesline Joseph, Head of the Department of Information Technology (HoD-IT). She addressed the gathering and warmly welcomed all the dignitaries on the dais.

Following the welcome address, the Chief Guest was invited to deliver the inaugural address. Mr. Basil Gigy, Student Coordinator of Orbit Association from S7 IT and the elected IT Department Student Representative, welcomed the Chief Guest.

The inaugural address was delivered by Mr. Rajeev Srinivas, Head, Academic Alliances Group, TCS, Keralam Region. He highlighted the importance of observation as an essential trait in the life of a technocrat. He also emphasized the need to adapt to evolving industry trends and continually acquire relevant skills to remain competent in the ever-changing technological landscape.

The IT Department Association, Orbit 2026, was officially inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Rajeev Srinivas, by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Following the inauguration, a memento was presented to the Chief Guest by Dr. Naveen Jacob, Principal, VJCET, as a token of appreciation.

The inaugural session continued with a felicitation address by Dr. Naveen Jacob, Principal of VJCET. He highlighted the significance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on the changing employment landscape. He also motivated the students to continuously enhance their knowledge and acquire new skills in response to emerging technological trends.

This was followed by a felicitation address by Mr. Somy P. Mathew, Vice-Principal, VJCET. In his address, he emphasized the importance of continuously learning new concepts, upgrading one's knowledge, and refining professional skills to meet the demands of the industry.

The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Anu Mariya Jose, Student Coordinator, VJCET, who expressed her gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members, organizers, and students for their valuable contributions to the successful conduct of the event.

Technical Talk on Industry 5.0

Following the formal inaugural ceremony, a technical talk on “Industry 5.0” was delivered by Mr. Rajeev Srinivas, Head, Academic Alliances Group, TCS, Keralam Region.

Industry 5.0 represents the next phase of industrial development, emphasizing collaboration between humans and advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), and smart automation. Unlike Industry 4.0, which primarily focuses on automation, connectivity, and efficiency, Industry 5.0 places humans at the centre of industrial processes. It promotes human-centricity, sustainability, and resilience by combining human creativity and decision-making with machine intelligence. The ultimate goal is to create a sustainable, flexible, and inclusive industrial ecosystem that benefits both society and the economy.

During the technical session, Mr. Rajeev Srinivas highlighted the relevance of Industry 5.0 in the contemporary technological landscape. He also provided valuable guidance to students on preparing for mock interviews, developing effective interview skills, and improving their professional readiness. His insights encouraged students to strengthen their technical competencies and prepare themselves to meet the evolving expectations of the IT industry.

At the conclusion of the technical talk, Mrs. Jesline Joseph, HoD-IT, presented a gift hamper to the Chief Guest as a token of appreciation for his valuable time and insightful session.

Cultural Programmes

The formal and technical sessions were followed by a series of vibrant cultural programmes presented by the students of the Department of Information Technology. The performances showcased the students' talents, creativity, and enthusiasm, creating an energetic and lively atmosphere.

The entire programme concluded on a joyful note, reflecting the active participation, unity, and spirit of the IT Department. Orbit 2026 served as a valuable platform for students to gain industry insights, enhance their professional awareness, and celebrate their talents beyond academics.

The entire programme ended with various cultural events by our students of IT filled with full energy and vibe.

Association Activities (2025-2026)

The Department of Information Technology, Viswajyothi College of Engineering & Technology (VJCET), successfully organized ORBIT–25, a technical event aimed at enhancing students’ awareness of current industry practices and essential technical skills.

As part of ORBIT–25, a Technical Talk on “Recent IT Trends” was conducted on Friday, 10th October 2025, at the College Auditorium. The programme commenced with the Inaugural Session at 1:15 PM and was attended by the college management, administrators, faculty members, and students of the IT department.

The session began with a welcome address by Mrs. Jesline Joseph, Head of the Department of Information Technology. This was followed by the Manager’s Address by Msgr. Dr. Pius Malekandathil, the Director’s Address by Rev. Dr. Paul Parathazham, and the Principal’s Address by Dr. K. K. Rajan, all of whom emphasized the importance of technical knowledge, innovation, and industry readiness among students. The felicitation address by Mr. Somy P. Mathew, Vice-Principal, further added value to the inaugural session.

The Chief Guest, Mrs. Ashita Mohan, Assistant Consultant at TCS, Ernakulam, was introduced by Mr. Alfred Santhosh, Association Secretary, S7 IT. In her keynote address, Mrs. Ashita Mohan delivered an insightful talk on recent trends in the IT industry, highlighting emerging technologies, evolving career opportunities, and the skills required to succeed in the professional world. The session provided students with valuable industry exposure and practical insights.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Meleena George, Student Co-ordinator, S7 IT.

Overleaf Workshop

As a continuation of ORBIT–25 activities and in line with the objective of peer learning, the department also organized a hands-on workshop on Overleaf on 11th December 2025. The workshop was conducted by S8 Information Technology students for S6 IT students. The session focused on introducing Overleaf as a collaborative LaTeX platform for preparing technical documents, project reports, seminar papers, and research manuscripts. The workshop enabled students to gain practical exposure to professional documentation tools, thereby enhancing their academic and research writing skills.

Both the technical talk and the workshop under ORBIT–25 successfully contributed to the academic enrichment, technical competency, and professional development of the students of the Information Technology department.

National Conference on Emerging Computing & Smart Technologies 2026

The National Conference “Emerging Computing & Smart Technologies 2026,” jointly organized by the Department of Information Technology and the Computer Society of India at Vishwajyothi Engineering College, was inaugurated by Dr. Rosna P. Harun, Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security at Ilahia College of Engineering & Technology, Muvattupuzha, CEO at Skilltech Innovators on March 9, 2026.

The conference, in which final-year students from various colleges across India presented papers, was presided over by the College Principal, Dr. K. K. Rajan. Mrs. Jesline Joseph, Head of the Department of Information Technology, Staff Coordinator Smt. Anitta K Mathew and Nivin K. Sunil, Student Coordinator, also delivered speeches.

Exploring Blockchain Technology: Principles, Platforms, and Practical Applications

Program Overview

The Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Blockchain Technology is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of blockchain fundamentals, security mechanisms, consensus protocols, implementation methodologies, and emerging real-world applications. Association Activities (2024-2025)

The IT Department Association is inaugurated every academic year. As part of the association celebrations, the Department of Information Technology organized various cultural and technical events for the academic year 2024–2025. The poster for the association was officially released on October 15, 2024.

The inaugural function began with a welcome speech by Mrs. Jesline Joseph (HoD–IT), who addressed the gathering and welcomed all the guests. This was followed by the Manager’s address by Msgr. Dr. Pius Malekandathil, who spoke about the importance of the association and various related aspects. Next was the Director’s address by Rev. Fr. Paul Nedumpurath, who delivered a speech contrasting the relative importance of cognitive intelligence (IQ) and emotional intelligence (EQ).

The program was further enriched by a message from the Principal, Dr. K. K. Rajan, who spoke about the abundant possibilities in the IT sector. The Chief Guest was warmly welcomed and introduced by Deborah Joseph, Student Co-ordinator (Association). The association was officially inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Mr. Siju Joseph (Delivery Partner, TCS Kochi). This was followed by an enlightening speech by the Chief Guest, in which he shared insights on the key aspects of the IT edge.

The inaugural ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Albin Bejoy, Secretary of the IT Department Association.

Following the inaugural function, Mr. Siju Joseph delivered a detailed technical talk on Aligning Skills with Industry Demands. Feedback on the session was given by Nia, a student of S7 IT. As a token of appreciation, a memento was presented to the Chief Guest by Msgr. Dr. Pius Malekandathil.

The program concluded on a vibrant note with cultural performances by the students.

Hack the Box

The inauguration of ‘Hack the Box’ VJCET chapter was held on 24 March, 2025. Following then a full day workshop program was held for the students who were showing interest in cyber security. The session was led by Chief guest: Mr.Arjun R, CEO(PURPLE NEXUS).

Alumni Talk

An alumni talk was conducted for S2 IT students on 25th March 2025 based on the topic "KNOW YOURSELF TO FIND YOUR BEST POTENTIAL" by Mr. Aswin Krishna R, a Solution Engineer at IBM InfoPark.

Technical Workshop on Cybersecurity and Python Gaming

As part of skill enhancement initiatives, the IT Department conducted two technical workshops on cybersecurity and Python game development for S5 and S7 IT students, respectively on 11th September 2024. The forenoon session titled "Eyes of the Web: OSINT" was led by Mr. Ragesh K Ramachandran, Cybersecurity Analyst, who introduced core concepts of cybersecurity, including network and cloud security, and incident response. The afternoon session, "Code Your Imagination", focused on Python-based game development using Pygame, offering hands-on experience in creating interactive games.

The Department of Information Technology, in association with CSI, IIIC, and the Alumni Association, organized a series of insightful alumni talks aimed at enhancing industry awareness and technical skills among students. The sessions included "Design Thinking and Strategic Planning" on 15th March 2024, "Snowflake for SQL Development" on 1st April 2024, and "Detection of Cyber Threats" on 9th April 2024. An Alumni talk on "Recent Trends in IT Industry" organised by Information Technology Department, in association with CSI, IIIC and Alumni Association on 21st August 2023.These talks provided valuable perspectives from industry-experienced alumni and fostered meaningful engagement between past and present students.
