PROFILE

Rev. Msgr. Dr. Pius Malekandathil embarked on his academic journey as a lecturer at St. Thomas College in Pala. He earned his PhD in History from Pondicherry Central University and subsequently assumed the position of Reader at Goa University. Later, he transitioned to Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in Kalady and was nominated to its Syndicate.

His linguistic prowess extends to multiple languages, including English, Malayalam, Portuguese, German, and Italian. His achievements in academia are illustrious, marked by a multitude of books and publications to his name. Prior to his current role as the President of the Trust and Manager of Viswajyothi College of Engineering and Technology, he served as a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Throughout his academic journey, Rev. Msgr. Dr. Pius Malekandathil has been recognized with numerous awards, scholarships, and honours. Notably, he secured the third rank for his B.A. from Kerala University in 1988. His academic excellence continued with the first rank and Gold Medal for his M.Phil. at Pondicherry Central University. He received scholarships from the Indian Council of Historical Research (I.C.H.R.) supported his M.Phil. research in 1991-1992 and his study of the Dutch Language in 1992.

Further demonstrating his commitment to academic exploration, Rev. Msgr. Dr. Pius Malekandathil received a scholarship from the Instituto Camões, under the Ministry of Education, Government of Portugal, for Research and Language Studies in Portugal during 1992-1993.

His areas of expertise encompass Indo-Portuguese History, Maritime History, Urban History of Medieval India, and Transmarine Trade. Rev. Msgr. Dr. Pius Malekandathil actively participates in professional bodies and has presented research papers at both national and international seminars. His extensive research experience and the completion of various research projects underscore his dedication to scholarly pursuits. In his current role, he serves as a guide and a source of inspiration to all within the institution.
