The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering was established in the year 2001.The Department offers a B.Tech programme in "Electronics and Communication Engineering" (60 seats) and an M.Tech programme (18 seats) in "VLSI and Embedded Systems". The B.Tech programme was affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University from 2001 to 2014 admissions. From 2015 admission onwards, the B.Tech programme is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Kerala Technological University (KTU).The B.Tech programme was accredited by NBA in June 2010 and has been re-accredited in June 2018 for three years. In 2021, the status of accreditation was extended for 1 year. In June 2022, the B.Tech programme was re-accredited by NBA for three years till June 2025.
The Department has 20 teaching staff and 6 non-teaching staff and also fully equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories to equip our students in the areas of Electronic Circuit Design, Communication Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Embedded Systems, Microwave Devices, Computer Simulations, Fiber Optic Communication etc.
To meet the requirements of industry and everyday life, the students are trained to carryout research and to develop low power, cost effective electronic products. Students of ECE Department play active role in various professional bodies like ISTE, IEEE, IETE student chapters. The Department aims to groom the students with high quality technical, managerial and research skills and also bagged many ranks in university exams including 5 first ranks 3 in B. Tech and 2 in M. Tech programmes. B.Tech programme has a very good job placement record. Our graduates are working in governmental organizations, national & multinational companies, defence services, and academic institutions in India and abroad. With technology becoming all pervasive in day-to-day life, opportunities for Electronic Engineers are endless.
All the labs in the department are very well equipped with components and equipment required to conduct experiments given in the curriculum and beyond.
We have facility to use Projector in our lab.
All the labs are well furnished and fully air-conditioned.
All labs are provided with Online Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and labs are equipped with speaker, fire& safety instruments and intercom.
The Labs have good ambiance as equipment are arranged in a way that students feel comfortable in doing experiments and individual attention can be given for all students.
All the labs have white board and Wi-Fi internet facility.
CIRCUITS LAB-I
Circuits-I Lab is equipped with advanced and state-of the-art equipment like DSO, CRO, Dual Power Supply, Signal Generator, Decade Resistance Box, Decade Inductance Box etc. from reputed manufacturers. This lab is well designed to provide adequate space and convenience to the students and the Lab is equipped with sufficient number of components well enough to accommodate 3 students per group for doing an experiment, so that student’s get the best exposure and confidence. Circuits-I lab facilitate the enhancement of the skills in Electronic Circuits Design for third and fourth semester students. The characteristics and applications of all basic electronic devices can be studied. Using these devices, Electronic circuits like amplifiers, Oscillators, multivibrators, voltage Regulators etc. can be constructed and can be checked.

CIRCUITS LAB II
Circuits-II Lab is equipped with state-of the-art equipment like CRO, Dual Power Supply, Signal Generator, Soldering Station, Q Meter, Audio System, and Drilling Machine etc. from reputed manufacturers. This Lab is equipped with sufficient number of components well enough to accommodate 3 students per group for doing an experiment, so that students get the best exposure and confidence.

INTEGRATED CIRCUITS LAB
The Integrated circuits lab provides an opportunity for the students to study the characteristics of linear ICs like Op-Amps, Timers, PLL etc. and Digital IC's like 74XX series. The lab is equipped with Digital trainer kits, Digital LCR-Q Meter, Oscilloscopes, Power supplies, Function generator etc. Application experiments using the above ICs are also performed in this lab.

COMMUNICATION LAB-1
This lab is used by the students to conduct practical pertaining to their mini project and hobby ideas. This lab is equipped with advanced and state-of the-art equipment like CRO, DSO, Dual Power Supply, Signal Generator etc. from reputed manufacturers. This lab provides an opportunity for the students to implement their own idea and make it a final product using the provided GSM modules, GPS modules etc.

COMMUNICATION LAB-II
This laboratory provides the students an opportunity to work on communication area. Latest equipment like high bandwidth Digital Storage Oscilloscopes, multiple power supplies etc. are available in the lab besides training kits for studying the various communication techniques. Microwave antennas, dipole antennas, phase shifters, filters, Optical Fiber Educational kit, Satellite Communication trainer are some such components. Photo lithography unit with developing and etching facility along with shearing, drilling and soldering units are arranged for the purpose of building custom printed PCBs in this lab.

MICROCONTROLLER & SYSTEMS LAB
The systems lab provides students with a variety of tools which support their curricular and co-curricular activities. Signal processing and hardware programming labs are conducted here as a part of curriculum. This lab is equipped with all the equipment for doing software and hardware experiments with a microcomputer system. Assembly language programming, simple input/output interfacing, and interrupt processing in microcomputer systems can be done in this lab.

PROJECT LAB
The primary purpose of the Project Lab in ECE Dept. is to provide the space and resources needed by students to complete their Main Project, Mini Project and student’s hobby Projects. The lab also serves as a meeting location for groups of students working on team projects. Many students also use this lab to work on supplemental learning projects to enhance their understanding of class and lab assignments. The project lab is equipped with oscilloscopes, Waveform Generators, Digital Multimeters, Power supplies, PCB design equipments etc. which facilitate the students to design and etch their own circuits for their project.

EMBEDDED SYSTEM LAB
Embedded Systems lab is equipped with 20 HP computer systems and microcontroller kits. The lab is utilized by Students of final year B Tech and M Tech. The systems are loaded with software for embedded systems experiments. DSP experiments can also be performed in this lab using DSP kits by Spectrum Digital.

VLSI DESIGN LAB
This lab is utilized by M Tech students for their project work. Final year B Tech students can also use this lab if their project work is related to VLSI design. 32 systems with VLSI Design software is available for the students. FPGA/CPLD kits are also available in this lab.
ZEALOUS is the association of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department. It plays a vital role in moulding Electronics Engineers with professional competence and global outlook. Technical Quiz, Technical Talks, Group Discussions, Hands-On-Workshops etc. are conducted for enriching the knowledge of Electronics Engineers in various core fields. The successful students in Academics, Technical/Managerial areas, Sports, Cultural Programs are honoured on this day. ZEALOUS is run by the student coordinators under the guidance of faculty members from the Department.
2023-24
ZEALOUS, the association of Electronics & Communication Engineering inaugurated its association activities for the academic year 2023-2024 on 16 th November 2023The formal inauguration was marked by the lighting of the lamp by Mr. Kurian Thomas, Co-Founder, Xtend Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Based on the current scenario, he delivered a Technical Talk on the topic ‘Industry’s Expectations from a Fresh Electronic Engineer’. During the meeting the class toppers were appreciated with a memento and certificate. Additionally, a range of cultural events were conducted. After the formal function a Quiz competition was conducted and the winners were appreciated with cash prize and certificate.
2022-23
ECE Association, Zealous for the year 2022-’23 was inaugurated By Dr. Neelakantan P. C, Principal of Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science (MITS) on 19th December, 2022. Based on the current scenario, he delivered a Technical Talk on the topic “The Transistor at 75 - Past, Present and the Future”. Since modern world's most important invention, Transistor’s 75th anniversary is celebrated by the Electronics world.
The inauguration ceremony was highlighted with technical quiz, organized by the Quiz and Debate Club of ECE department, followed by the musical program of our students.
2021-22
Mr. Jeevan Joseph, Senior Engineer & Manager, Data Engineering Analytics and Sciences at Amazon,USA inaugurated the 2021-22 ECE alumni association and delivered a technical talk on the topic “IOT-Interwined Nature of Hardware and Software”. It was conducted on 25/1/2022 in online mode. He got graduated in Btech (Electronics and Communication Engineering) from Viswajyothi Engineering College in the year of 2008.
2020-21
The association activities for the year were inaugurated by Mr. Joe Thomas, Senior Software Engineer, Amazon, USA on 22nd March, 2021. He delivered a technical talk on the topic “Industry expectations”. Another technical talk was delivered on the topic “Career advancement” by Mr. Lalu Paul, Senior Software Engineer, Xilinx, USA. He is an alumnus of ECE department of VJCET. Inaugural ceremony was conducted in online mode.
Dr. Naveen Jacob, Associate Professor
Welcome to the department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Viswajyothi College of Engineering & Technology, Vazhakulam, Kerala. We started our journey in the year 2001 with the aim of providing leadership in the field of Electronics & Communication Engineering with an intake of 30 students. The department is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) with a current intake of 60 students. We also have NAAC accreditation at institute level, with “A” grade.
The department has a team of well qualified and experienced faculty members and technical supporting staff, who dedicatedly work for moulding electronics engineers with professional competence and global outlook. We have excellent infrastructure and state-of-the-art laboratories to equip our students in the areas of Electronic Circuit Design, Communication Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Embedded Systems, Microwave Devices, Computer Simulations, Fiber Optic Communication etc. All laboratories are well equipped with required hardware and simulation software. The student projects are conducted in-house with the guidance of department faculty and industrial trainers. The 4-year B.Tech. programme is also sandwiched with seminars & workshops in collaboration with industries, based on current technological trends, industrial visits, industrial internships etc., in order to achieve a balance between academic knowledge and practical experience that enable them to serve industry and societal needs.
Apart from strictly adhering to academic curriculum, various co-curricular and extracurricular activities take place at department level and institute level. Students are given opportunities to involve in professional bodies such as IEEE and IETE student chapter activities which help students to gain confidence in showcasing their technical skills. Students are encouraged to participate in arts fest, technical fest, sports etc. at intra-college and, inter-college level competitions. We have a very good job placement record. Our graduates are working in governmental organizations, national & multinational companies, defence services, and academic institutions in India and abroad.
