Standards Club

Preface

The Bureau of Indian Standards(BIS) is the national standards body of India. BIS is responsible for developing and publishing Indian standards. BIS has established standards clubs in schools and colleges across the country with an objective to make the young members of the society aware about the importance of standards in improving quality of life. The support provided by BIS include orientation training for mentees, co-ordinate with the club for the design and execution of its various activities, invite and involve members of standards clubs in special programs organized by BIS and financial support for conducting club activities. A unit of Standard club was formed at VJCET in 2021. VJCET is associated with Kochi branch of Bureau of Indian Standards.

Activities

The standards club organizes variety of student-centric activities aimed at providing them opportunities for learning on the of quality and standardization. Meetings will be organized on a regular basis for the members of the standards club for imparting knowledge about standardization, quality and the structure and content of standards. Standards club in engineering institutions conducts competition on writing standards, workshops/seminars on specific standards, workshop on area for developing new standards etc. BIS also conducts exposure visit for standard club members. It aims to equip students with a profound understanding of scientific concepts, principles, and laws by showcasing their practical applications in the manufacturing, functioning, and quality testing of various products, as outlined in the relevant Indian Standards

Activities /Events participated by VJCET Standards club members

A door to door awareness campaign and survey was conducted on 13,14 and 15thOctober 2022 by members of VJCET standards club.
A Walkathon was conducted on15th October 2022 the world standards day,
An Industrial visit to M/s AlampallyBrothers Limited was organized on 25th October 2022.
Orientation and training for student members by Shri. Ben Joseph the Standards Promotion Officer, BIS Cochin on 9th March 2023.
As a part of Quality connect program, a Consumer awareness door to door campaign was organized on 15th March 2023.
VJCET standard club members actively participated in the world standards day celebration at Holiday Inn, Kochi on 13th October 2023.
